Trees are a vital part of the cycles that guarantee that what humans call life can survive on the planet. Unfortunately we have been cutting them down at least since we started agriculture perhaps 11 or 12 centuries ago. All plants and trees effectively “breathe” in some form or another but more now than ever it is important to stop forest destruction and also review where we plant new trees and what sort of trees we plant. This is not just just to maintain the current forests and their CO2 and oxygen exchange and their role in precipitation but also for the complex ecosystems that have developed over centuries and millennia. In leaving these remaining forests alone we must as humans leave them in peace for true rewilding and evolution to take place.
