The story

In Endangered Meadow the bees of Old Oak Meadow have to unite the meadow’s inhabitants to stop some developers building houses all over it. The adventure starts one day when one clever bee, Beatrice, Bea to her friends, the hardest working bee in the hive, discovers a new sign at the entrance to the meadow. She comes up with an ingenious idea of how to save the home of all the creatures that live there. Will they be successful?

This is a photo of Basil visiting Versailles in France on a beautiful blue sky Spring day. Basil’s the bear from my book Brown Bear’s Big Day Out printed onto a T-shirt but with no Scientist and Philosopher logo and just for children.

The Story

Basil wants to get out of the zoo and visit a funfair that he has read about but how can he get there? The only way that he can leave the zoo and not scare people is to wear a disguise so he comes up with a plan to escape and visit Dizzyland.

Where’s Basil? Basking in the sun, Hyde Park, London – Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

Basil’s taking a short break while walking around Hyde Park on this sunny but chilly January day.

Brown Bear’s Big Day Out is a story about a bear in a zoo that puts on a disguise so that he can escape and visit a funfair called Dizzyland. It’s about looking at people in depth and not being afraid because they look different from you. So Basil looks like a man when disguised but is still the same friendly and hero bear in this case once his disguise slips.

The story contains illustrations throughout the text. These are then repeated at the back of the printed book so that younger children can colour them in. One of them can be seen below.

The space rocket lands – Clever Dad and the Space Rocket

Clever Dad and the Space Rocket is the second in the Clever Dad series following on from Clever Dad and the Pirate Ship. I’m in the process of putting together a third installment. Gerry Newton, the illustrator, is working on a brilliant and very colourful cover.

In Space Rocket Tristan blasts off into space in a space rocket built by his father. He soon discovers that all cows can jump over the moon but bizarrely not all of them are coming back. Time to find out why and solve the mystery. In this illustration the rocket lands on the moon so Tristan and the rocket’s computer, George, can investigate what has happened to the missing cows.

The stories

In Silent Spring, the second Busy Bee story and named after Rachel Carson’s famous book, the creatures of Old Oak Meadow start to fall ill. Bea and her friends must try to find out why. There seems to be some bad things going on in one of the farms next to the meadow. What are they and how do they stop what is making everyone sick?
