The Sydney Opera House and the amazing story of the French genius behind the design of the sails

We took this photo of one of the world’s most recognisable buildings during our one year backpacking journey in January 2000. Like most people I guess it never occurred to us how such a complex building had come about. In 2019 I read about the death of a man originally from France, Joseph Bertony, who carried out 30,000 manual calculations by hand to create the sails. Incredible! Most of us live very uneventful lives compared to this man and his story is a most interesting one, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-47880938. His story will fascinate you so it’s definitely worth a read.

Sequencing the Australian lungfish – the largest sequence so far

An amazing creature dating back 420 million years to when its branch of the evolutionary tree started. A link between the creatures of the seas and oceans and us that are land based. The genome is 43 billion base pairs long, around 14 times that of humans, https://www.newscientist.com/article/2265127-australian-lungfish-has-largest-genome-of-any-animal-sequenced-so-far/?utm_source=Nature+Briefing&utm_campaign=57e66184c4-briefing-dy-20210120&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c9dfd39373-57e66184c4-43669565.

Save the Bees Australia

I have been contacting anyone that I can find through social media who has a connection with bees so that I can promote my book, Busy Bee and the Endangered Meadow. Along the way I ran into Simon who runs www.beethecure.com

Simon believes if bees thrive humanity can thrive. With a focus on educating children about the importance of pollination and the rolls indigenous bees play, founder Simon Mulvany has personally saved over 400 colonies of honeybees that were due to be exterminated.

Simon also regular attends at schools to present his work to Australian school children. The enterprise is often featured in mainstream media with special emphasis on the campaigns calling for pesticides to be banned and to stop honey laundering and adulteration that is hurting Australian Beekeepers.

As a voice for small business we have created a honeymap that has been viewed over 430000 times connecting consumers to buy honey direct off the beekeeper.

The change.org petition has over 50000 signatures is currently calling for imported honey to be banned or at least labelled with country of origin.
