Think of me – I like wild gardens – organic cotton bag

This is a Scientist and Philosopher organic cotton bag that we have created using a Teemill base design. In the UK, in many cases, a garden is a very neatly arranged place and sometimes just a sterile lawn surrounded by 6 foot fences. Since gardens have replaced what were once wild places they need to be let go a bit and have at least an “untidy” corner. All sorts of wildlife will really appreciate it. Fences need to have holes cut in the bottom of them to let hedgehogs and other creatures through creating super hedgehog highways. You don’t need chemicals to get rid of your snails and slugs you need a hedgehog. We all need to start living more within the environment and not on top of it.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them.

The design is also available as a T-shirt in men’s and women’s styles and for children. You can see this bag and our other designs in our Teemill shop, https://junagarh-media.teemill.com/product/hedgehog-and-wild-garden-shopping-bag/.

This is not my beautiful house, Switzerland and anywhere – Environmental loading 8

I posted this at the end of March 2021. How many people are anymore the wiser in knowing what pollutants are in their houses?

28th March 2021

With a title borrowed from Talking Heads this article is in French unfortunately for those that are not French speakers but it highlights the environmental poisoning that our dream houses are doing to the natural world. While it might seem normal for you or I in our tiny life bubbles imagine the house scaled up for 7.8 billion people. That’s a lot of pollution.

Air fresheners – what a stink

I posted this last January. It’s interesting what many take for granted without considering the true cost is in terms of the planet’s degradation and resource use.

January 12th 2021

As humans, many of the species are obsessed primarily in how something looks and after that in how something smells. For some of those more fortunate to have not just a roof over their heads but also a proper floor, windows and doors the smell of the interior is something that needs more than open windows to allow the fresh air in once in a while. As always of course there’s an environmental cost in addition to any human currency costs that varies depending on what type of air freshener is purchased.

Take for example the air freshener in the photo. Energy was used to create both the contents and the container both of which are probably on a one way trip in many cases. Then there’s the fuels used to transport canisters of perfumed gas around. Beyond that there’s the question that although air fresheners may smell great are they actually doing you harm? Like so many things we buy we assume that there’s a regulatory body with the consumer’s interests at hearth and not the corporation involved in the production. Is that the case? https://www.madesafe.org/toxic-chemicals-in-air-fresheners/ As for plug in air fresheners, that’s another story.

Microplastics discovered in the placenta. That’s right, we’ve polluted the planet that much.

I posted this just over a year ago and we’re still poisoning ourselves. A recent piece of research found that tiny particles of plastic crossed the blood brain barrier in mice. Now these won’t kill you immediately but it’s the tiniest things in life that do kill us from bacteria and viruses, smoke particles and asbestos fibres to possibly these items of our convenient lifestyles. For 2022 it’s time for all of us to change our lives and demand from our governments the changes to the use of plastics required for a safe future.

December 2020

A new study shows that microplastics have been found in the placenta of a number of women. These microplastic particle can be joined to toxins and pathogens and they are in some cases travelling through our bodies and it would seem into or at least affect newly born children. The long term health consequences have probably not been worked out, yet the fossil fuels industries wants to produce more plastic. These industries need to regulated properly and unnecessary plastic use needs to be curtailed. Still want a free plastic bag for your shopping or a plastic straw for your drink? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412020322297
