Are We Now in Generation VVV, Vain, Vacant and Vacuous?

First posted in the middle of 2018. Looking at what is happening around the world in politics it seems the situation is getting worse with only a small percentage of people rebelling against wealth and power.

It seems to me that a lot of people just don’t care as long as they have their headphones on and their brains switched on to digital effluent. We need everyone’s engagement if we are to stop the current slide into a system where only a few have wealth and with it the power to tell us what to do and how to live our lives.

Most democracies are flawed

Why do I say that? Because they have stopped evolving. Part of that reason is that many people are fairly politically illiterate, they just don’t care or they are too busy to do anything about it. That’s just the way the political elites, the despots, the super rich and global corporations like it. We need system and economics change. There was a time and there still is in many countries that you were expected to fight for your country and maybe even give up your life for it. But what happened to your duty to make sure that your neighbour was OK or that the family two streets away were not suffering? We are divided by the political classes that rule over us and it is time for that to change. Switzerland has a system probably better than most but even there the number of people who vote is declining. Every human must have a right to have a say in their future so we must stop a small group of elites hijacking what is jokingly called a democracy.

Lausanne – A Saturday Morning in a Pretty Swiss City

We were in Switzerland for a long weekend visiting Caroline’s mum. Lausanne is a very pretty city. It has the air of civilisation defined. The photos are of Place de la Palud and on one side is Hotel de Ville where people get married. The area is packed on a Saturday with a proper farmers market in the morning. Along with the weddings various people on stalls who will stop you and ask you to sign various potential issues to be discussed by the government. Yes, they have a functioning democracy, light years ahead of the joke that is the British system of self interest and revolving doors.
