Microplastics discovered in the placenta. That’s right, we’ve polluted the planet that much.

A recent Greenpeace study discovered a large amount of micro plastic particles entering the environment from a plastics recycling plant. With over 13,000 types of plastics in use, several thousand known to be harmful to humans and thousands of others of unknown toxicity it’s time to cut plastic production and use drastically. Meanwhile…..

A new (relatively) study shows that microplastics have been found in the placenta of a number of women. These microplastic particle can be joined to toxins and pathogens and they are in some cases travelling through our bodies and it would seem into or at least affect newly born children. The long term health consequences have probably not been worked out, yet the fossil fuels industries wants to produce more plastic. These industries need to regulated properly and unnecessary plastic use needs to be curtailed. The Tip of the Plasticberg

First posted in June 2018.

This is an interesting article on the plastic pollution and the risks that not only have been so clearly demonstrated on the natural world but its potential to truly affect the health of you and I. Time to stop drinking your coffee out of a takeaway cup as you are basically eating it as well or someone else’s at least.

This plastic madness of wrapping vegetables has to stop

First posed 31st December 2021. Are we reducing the amount of unnecessary plastic wrapping and use? it doesn’t seem like it.

Once again the only choice of buying cauliflower was to buy one all wrapped up in plastic poison and pollution. We must stop this as it is a danger to all life on this planet. Dramatic? Not really when you know the facts. Maybe not this plastic but some other piece of plastic’s breakdown products could cause you harm. Few of us know where the plastic will end up. Maybe it will be burnt locally causing the release of toxic particles. Maybe it will be exported to some poorer country and will end up poisoning their environment. Except it’s not their environment, it’s our environment and microplastic and nanoplastic particles have been found from the tops of mountains to the bottom of the deepest ocean trenches and on into the human placenta. Wrapping vegetables in plastic has polluted the whole planet so why do it and why accept it. 2021 has to be the year where we say no more and we start demanding change.

This plastic madness of wrapping vegetables has to stop

I posted this at the end of 2020 but little if anything has changed in terms of unnecessarily wrapping things in plastic that don’t need to be. n 2021 researchers showed that very small plastic particles could cross the blood brain barrier in mice. This hasn’t been looked for in humans as far as I’m aware but it has serious health implications for us.

Microplastics discovered in the placenta. That’s right, we’ve polluted the planet that much.

I posted this just over a year ago and we’re still poisoning ourselves. A recent piece of research found that tiny particles of plastic crossed the blood brain barrier in mice. Now these won’t kill you immediately but it’s the tiniest things in life that do kill us from bacteria and viruses, smoke particles and asbestos fibres to possibly these items of our convenient lifestyles. For 2022 it’s time for all of us to change our lives and demand from our governments the changes to the use of plastics required for a safe future.
