Microplastics discovered in the placenta. That’s right, we’ve polluted the planet that much.

A recent Greenpeace study discovered a large amount of micro plastic particles entering the environment from a plastics recycling plant. With over 13,000 types of plastics in use, several thousand known to be harmful to humans and thousands of others of unknown toxicity it’s time to cut plastic production and use drastically. Meanwhile…..

A new (relatively) study shows that microplastics have been found in the placenta of a number of women. These microplastic particle can be joined to toxins and pathogens and they are in some cases travelling through our bodies and it would seem into or at least affect newly born children. The long term health consequences have probably not been worked out, yet the fossil fuels industries wants to produce more plastic. These industries need to regulated properly and unnecessary plastic use needs to be curtailed. We need to stop this. It’s becoming increasingly known that plastic is not only disastrous for the environment but also poses significant human health risks.

This is an excellent visual article on how much plastic we are all consuming. What we need to know is what are the long term health effects because of the pathogens and other chemicals that the micro and nano sized particles can carry with them. Where do they end up? Which organs and can they cross the blood brain barrier? This isn’t the way we should be living our lives and it certainly isn’t sustainable yet the fossil fuel corporations want to increase plastic production. This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform using one of their base designs. It’s about the fact that the clock is ticking and still people seem oblivious to it with many trying to still push business as usual agendas. In the 200 or so years of industrial revolution of progress, a blink in geological time, we have altered the planet’s system to such an extent that we have enhanced our risk of extinction. The fossil record tells us that most species go extinct over time and that includes nine other species of humans leaving only sapiens. In 2021 we must change our ways and start reducing our fossil fuel use. It could be a bitter pill to swallow unless you are prepared for it. This bag is handy because you won’t have to use a plastic one.

The human race is addicted to burning fossil fuels to the detriment to life on Earth. Carbon dioxide emissions have been released in large quantities since the start of the industrial revolution. The level now seen in the atmosphere has not been at such a level since before the start of this current series of ice ages around 2.58 million years ago. The implications are that parts of the planet will become uninhabitable and there will be mass extinctions of different forms of life which may include Homo sapiens.

Where’s Basil? – He’s joined the rebellion, Extinction Rebellion – Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

Brown Bear’s Big Day Out is a story about a bear in a zoo that puts on a disguise so that he can escape and visit a funfair called Dizzyland. It’s about looking at people in depth and not being afraid because they look different from you. So Basil looks like a man when disguised but is still the same friendly and hero bear in this case once his disguise slips.

The story contains illustrations throughout the text. These are then repeated at the back of the printed book so that younger children can colour them in. One of them can be seen below.

Basil supports Extinction Rebellion and suggests that you do to. It’s not only humans in danger from burning fossil fuels. 13th April 2022.
