The Two Revolutionaries – Barranquilla, Colombia

A poster seller’s wares in the city of Barranquilla. It has been said that Che looked like Jesus and this poster seller decided that he or she would make that connection.

Green Embrace – Cartagena, Colombia

We took this photograph on our visit to Colombia during our one year backpacking trip. Cartagena, in Colombia, is a World Heritage site and this is clearly visible in the old centre. Buildings have been restored with great attention to details as is demonstrated by this beautifully restored colonial house .

Visiting Morges Switzerland

On Sunday we went to Morges, a small town on Lac Leman to the west of Lausanne. It certainly looks idyllic. I know the economics are very different in Switzerland but it is difficult to see sometimes how it works. Rents in the UK are so high that a shop selling just trainers would not survive but it does in a small town like Morges. Likewise, almost £65 for a visit to a hairdresser seems a little steep, you can tell that I don’t go very often. Morges is a very picturesque town. There is a wonderful shoreline and views across the lake to France. There is a small harbour with boats of different sizes. We also visited a cartoon exhibition. The theme this time was Macron and his presidency.

Lausanne – A Saturday Morning in a Pretty Swiss City

We were in Switzerland for a long weekend visiting Caroline’s mum. Lausanne is a very pretty city. It has the air of civilisation defined. The photos are of Place de la Palud and on one side is Hotel de Ville where people get married. The area is packed on a Saturday with a proper farmers market in the morning. Along with the weddings various people on stalls who will stop you and ask you to sign various potential issues to be discussed by the government. Yes, they have a functioning democracy, light years ahead of the joke that is the British system of self interest and revolving doors.

Seahorse – Cartajena, Colombia

We took this photograph on our first visit to Colombia. Cartagena, in Colombia, is a World Heritage site and this is clearly visible in the old centre. Buildings have been restored with great attention to details as is demonstrated by this beautiful seahorse adorning an otherwise simple door. Brief Existence – Is This All That We Are?

I took this photograph in the centre of Lausanne where a man was entertaining children by creating bubbles on a Saturday morning. I only had a small Fuji pocket camera but I managed to get a couple of good shots. I named the photograph Brief Existence because it reminded me of the fragility and shortness of not only human life but of all life both as individuals and species. Most people it seems to me are unaware of time passing although as you get older it may be that it gets more noticeable.

Butterfly, Iguaçu, Brasil

Not the most colourful butterfly you can see in the stunning waterfalls of Iguaçu but still very pretty with its delicate pattern. We took this photograph some years ago when we visited Iguazu Falls with some friends from Paraguay. Copyright Paul Andrews and Caroline Schmutz, Junagarh Media.
