Where’s Basil? – Jardin Botanique de l’Université de Strasbourg, France – Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

Basil’s taking a stroll around the Jardin Botanique de l’Université de Strasbourg. It’s a very interesting place and he does like nature and all its variety.

Brown Bear’s Big Day Out is a story about a bear in a zoo that puts on a disguise so that he can escape and visit a funfair called Dizzyland. It’s about looking at people in depth and not being afraid because they look different from you. So Basil looks like a man when disguised but is still the same friendly and hero bear in this case once his disguise slips.

Basil in the vegetation that he found near The Tower of St Elsyng Spital, founded as a hospital next to London Wall in 1331 by a merchant called William Elsing. He always tries to get back to nature when he can.

Plants – The lungs of Earth – organic cotton adult T-shirt

Plants, the lungs of planet Earth, Scientist and Philosopher.

The natural world, the plants, the trees are the lungs of the Earth allowing the more complex living lifeforms to live and evolve. Without them or if we damage these systems too much ecosystems will start to break down. Unfortunately we have been battering natural systems with our human progress at least since we started agriculture perhaps 11 or 12 centuries ago. All plants and trees effectively “breathe” in some form or another but more now than ever it is important to stop both forest and other ecosystem destruction such as meadows and prairies. We must also review where we plant new trees and what sort of trees we plant if we plant them at all. Rewilding is not just about planting any seedling anywhere because complex ecosystems have developed over centuries and millennia. In leaving these remaining wildernesses alone we must as humans leave them in peace for true rewilding and evolution to take place.
