Renewables – organic cotton bag

This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform using one of their base designs.

We live in a very degraded and altered environment that is changing our planet and its processes and life support systems. New green technologies are being developed very rapidly but business as usual economics and hugely powerful and wealthy corporations and individuals are still continuing with their fossil fuel agenda. They must be stopped if we want an equitable future for the generations that follow us. This bag is handy because you won’t have to use a plastic one.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them.

It’s available from our Teemill shop, https://junagarh-media.teemill.com/product/renewables-v1b-shopping-bag/. Also available as a unisex T-shirt, https://junagarh-media.teemill.com/product/renewables-v1b/.

Passing a shopping centre and local bus, Asuncion, Paraguay

The shopping centres are as good if not better than those in other countries yet only a percentage of the population can afford to go to them. They are, as all shopping centres are, full of goods made with exploited and lowly paid labour. Seen on the road out of Asuncion, Paraguay in 2012, as we leave on the long distance coach for Buenos Aires. A journey that for us leaves around 6pm, maybe earlier, if I remember correctly and arrives the next day, 19 to 20 hours later. 29th February 2012.

Keep it cool – End fossil fuel use – organic cotton bag

This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform using one of their base designs. It’s about the fact that the clock is ticking and still people seem oblivious to it with many trying to still push business as usual agendas. In the 200 or so years of industrial revolution of progress, a blink in geological time, we have altered the planet’s system to such an extent that we have enhanced our risk of extinction. The fossil record tells us that most species go extinct over time and that includes nine other species of humans leaving only sapiens. In 2021 we must change our ways and start reducing our fossil fuel use. It could be a bitter pill to swallow unless you are prepared for it. This bag is handy because you won’t have to use a plastic one.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet.

Make Earth great again – organic cotton bag

This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform using one of their base designs.

Imagine what the Earth looked like to an alien visitor some 7 million years ago before the human species started along its branch of evolution. Then think about what it looks like now and the damage that sapiens have caused, especially in the last two hundred years, the destroyed forests and wildernesses, the global plastic pollution, the live munitions discarded all over the planet’s surface, the staggering changes to the climate. We have a lot of reparations to make and we haven’t really started yet.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them.

It’s available from our Teemill shop, https://junagarh-media.teemill.com/product/make-earth-great-again-v1b-shopping-bag/.

We need bees V1B – Organic cotton bag

An organic cotton bag from Scientist and Philosopher about bees. A species far more important than us human primates.

We need bees and other pollinators because we depend on them for much of the food we eat. They can do without us human primates. They can do without us spraying everything with poisonous chemicals in the hope of producing ever more quantities of food. The human species needs to learn to live within the bounds of nature and not try to conquer it because it will be a battle that we will eventually lose.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them.

How to Save the World – Part 1

A return visit to something I wrote a couple of years ago and yep we’re still refilling that egg box in the photo. We all need to change.

Posted a year ago or so. While it’s great that the UK government is making a move to get rid of single use plastics we can still do our bit and stop using so much packaging. It’s not hard.

Trying to make a difference. These days convenience is the cheapest way to buy items in terms of money but the most expensive in environmental damage. This is one of our old egg boxes that we have been buying eggs in for years but unless you have a farmer’s market or a small shop that sells loose eggs at a reasonable price then the average person will be buying these boxes and recycling them if we are lucky every week from one of the large supermarkets.

So how do we change that without all the supermarkets complaining that it will cost the consumer more? Of course they are not going to lose out. In the UK as we know they are screwing farmers where they can and as the dopey and very greedy boss of Sainsbury’s was caught out singing recently, “We’re in the money”.

So, it will have to be the big and bad state getting involved again to force business and individuals to do the right thing because there will always be people, many people probably who won’t do the right thing even if long term it affects their health and that of the their children. It’s not about asking people for an extra 5p for every egg box they use, it’s about reducing the need to have many egg boxes produced because everybody brings their own egg box when they shop. I think our egg boxes still have some life left in them.

Make 2023 (2021) the year of not buying something

First posted in January 2021.

Part of the problem of climate change, deforestation, species extinction is related to the amount we consume and currently business as usual merchants want us to continue spending and consuming. This isn’t possible on a finite planet and is morally wrong when we know of the exploitation of human labour and the environment. So how about making a list of things that you don’t buy this year, that you do without? If we all didn’t buy something it would make a big difference. I can see the problems for people. A younger me would also spend and spend again but I have become old enough to reject the advertising by what the marketing and advertising people tell me is essential for my life and happiness. So why not try and not go shopping whether it be physically when allowed to do so or on line? Make a note of items that you have decided not to buy and at the end of 2021 count up how much money you have saved. There are those that will say that these people in 3rd world countries need the work and while true they need more than economic slave wages and that needs to change too.

Killing the Earth for shopping

First posted in January 2021.

Western, first world countries rely on cheap and often exploited labour to fill the shops and increasingly so the internet with cheaply made throw away rubbish. Perhaps no more so than in the fast fashion industry which is always so shocked at finding exploitation in its supply chains. Shops turn over at quite a rate either for a new brand or a refit and this is where they also exploit the environment. Here we see one shop being refitted for a brand and at the end of it the wood and whatever materials are covering it will be placed into landfill or burnt causing more pollution. If workers were not being exploited and there was an actual true value put on the resources used for this “cheap” hoarding this sort of waste and wanton destruction of the environment for the business as usual model of capitalist growth would not be possible. Make 2021 the year when you shop and consume less. Our political leaders want us to consume more but we must stop if we want to have some sort of sustainable and equitable future.

OK, so let’s try in 2023

Plastic soup. In 2021 let’s start getting rid of the plastic in our lives

First published in January 2021. As consumers we need to stop buying stuff in plastic even if it makes our lives a little less convenient.

Soup, at least in the UK, is sold in various packaging but this has to be the worst. Tin cans may require energy to be melted down to become cans again but at least they won’t end up as microplastic and nanoplastic particles in our bodies like the breakdown products of this plastic soup container might. We don’t know what these small plastic pieces will do to us health wise but on their journey they can pick up toxins and pathogens so it would be best if we were not consuming them. They are already in every part of our environment so if we want to stop that happening we have to use our consumer power as one way of making that change. So if you are buying soup leave this sort of soup on the shelves. If enough of us did it we might get the retailers to wonder why their products are not selling.
