Basil buys fish and chips – an illustration from Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

In Brown Bear’s Big Day Out, Basil, a brown bear dons a disguise so that he can escape from the zoo and go to a funfair called Dizzyland disguised as a person. On the way there he gets a little hungry so he pops into a fish and chip shop. It doesn’t taste like the fish he is normally given in the zoo but he rather likes it.

Buzz of a Party – Busy Bee and the Endangered Meadow

Busy Bee and the Endangered Meadow is a story about some bees trying to save their meadow from some evil, grasping housing developers. Bea is the hardest working bee in the hive and she comes up with the idea to try and fool the local council that a rare and endangered species lives in the meadow. The developers however are not going to let some bees get in the way of their profit but little do they know that they will be taking on all the creatures of the meadow in a fight to protect their homes.

In the UK we have lost 97% of our meadows since the middle of the 20th century much of them to the obesity of urban sprawl and a planning system unfit for purpose. Some research shows that meadows are very good carbon sinks, perhaps as good as forests. In the UK however, as in many other countries, the countryside has been built over.

The Lost Marble and The Lost Marble Colouring Book

The Lost Marble is a book about a marble that falls from the pocket of a boy who has many and then has to find its way home with the help of several characters.

All’s well that ends well as the great bard once said. The marble is found by a girl who doesn’t have many marbles and who decides to name the marble Lucky. Considering his adventures it’s a very suitable name.

It is the book that I wrote for the 5-7 year old reader although it could be read to younger readers as it is quite a simple story. I also produced it in two versions. Although this one has illustrations to colour in, the second one, The Lost Marble Colouring Book has less text, one line per page and more illustrations. This simpler version is aimed at the 3-5 year old age group. This illustration is one of those from the The Lost Marble Colouring Book.

The Lost Marble – Finally home or perhaps not

The Lost Marble is a book about a marble that falls from the pocket of a boy who has many and then has to find its way home with the help of several characters.

The marble is finally able to follow the last of Rex the dog’s instructions and arrives at his destination but it isn’t his house and Rex was as wrong as Henry the short sighted mouse. The marble is now very sad.

The Lost Marble – The marble crosses the road

The Lost Marble is a book about a marble that falls from the pocket of a boy who has many and then has to find its way home with the help of several characters.

The marble then finds a pedestrian crossing so that he can cross the road but he’s too small to be seen and a passing car sends him flying up into the air. This is not good for a fragile glass marble. If he breaks when he lands he won’t be of any use to children playing games of marbles.

The Lost Marble – The marble lands on a sweet wrapper

The Lost Marble is a book about a marble that falls from the pocket of a boy who has many and then has to find its way home with the help of several characters.

The marble finds himself in a rain storm and the water rushing along the pavement pushes him off into the gutter. Luckily for him he lands on a sweet wrapper but as he sails away on it the next danger he encounters is the drain, where the fast flowing water is disappearing into.

After the sun has risen the marble starts to roll his way home but he ends up going too fast and is in danger of crashing over the high kerb. Nobody plays with broken marbles so he’s in danger.
