A dizzy Basil – bears are not used to funfairs

Basil is the bear from my story Brown Bear’s Big Day Out. His adventure starts when he dons a disguise so that he can look like a person and he then escapes from his zoo. He wants to runaway to a funfair that he has heard of called Dizzyland.

Basil’s the hero – Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

Brown Bear’s Big Day Out is a story about a bear in a zoo that puts on a disguise so that he can escape and visit a funfair called Dizzyland. It’s about looking at people in depth and not being afraid because they look different from you. So Basil looks like a man when disguised but is still the same friendly and hero bear in this case once his disguise slips.

The story contains illustrations like this throughout the text. These are then repeated at the back of the printed book so that younger children can colour them in. Basil is back to being his normal self again in this illustration and he’s just as friendly without his disguise.

Basil is so happy that he has escaped from the zoo that he wants to dance but then he realises that people are far too serious most of the the time that they would actually dance in the street.

The story is about a bear who disguises himself as a person so that he can visit a funfair called Dizzyland.

Buzz of a Party – Busy Bee and the Endangered Meadow

Busy Bee and the Endangered Meadow is a story about some bees trying to save their meadow from some evil, grasping housing developers. Bea is the hardest working bee in the hive and she comes up with the idea to try and fool the local council that a rare and endangered species lives in the meadow. The developers however are not going to let some bees get in the way of their profit but little do they know that they will be taking on all the creatures of the meadow in a fight to protect their homes.

In the UK we have lost 97% of our meadows since the middle of the 20th century much of them to the obesity of urban sprawl and a planning system unfit for purpose. Some research shows that meadows are very good carbon sinks, perhaps as good as forests. In the UK however, as in many other countries, the countryside has been built over.
