Professor Phew and His Very Special Cat – Chapter 2

Professor Phew and Mara stop off at the Odd Moment Cafe to meet up with a friend.

The story

Professor Peter Phew is a very clever man who invents devices and machines, things that are practical, things that are not so practical and things that are downright impossible either to build, or if they could be built, then to use. His greatest invention, perhaps, is his time and space travelling machine that when normally disguised looks like a portaloo. Why a portaloo? Well, nobody notices them when they arrive or disappear. Have you seen one recently? Is it still there? It could be the professor.

A very special and mysterious cat called Mara lived in Peter’s house. Mara’s completely black with piercing green eyes. She seemed to have changed since she and the professor fell out feeling very dizzy one day from of one of the machines that he had built. The experience appeared to have given her some special powers that even the professor could not understand and that she is certainly not going to let him know about.

Read all about their adventures in and around their town, Eldington, as Mara helps the professor and keeps an eye on his chaotic life. There are some problems to solve and the professor’s machines will certainly help him and Mara to sort them out. But she is certainly not going back in the machine again that made her very dizzy.

The wonderful cover and internal illustrations are by Alice Wright and can be seen throughout the book.

Professor Phew and His Very Special Cat – Chapter 1

After surviving various adventures he needs to try and get home. Luckily for him there are some locals to help him do it but will he be able to escape capture and find his way home?

The story is available as an ebook or as a printed A4 sized book globally on Amazon. Women’s Scientist and Philosopher – plain logo organic cotton T-shirt dress

An organic cotton T-shirt dress from our Scientist and Philosopher range.

A plain logo for those that like to keep it simple.

Sadly it seems science is still not taking first place in the decision making processes by governments on our collective future. Not only that but women are not represented anywhere near where they should be in science and the STEM subjects. Only by reading the science and listening to the scientists will we find solutions to a sustainable and equitable future. (S&P)

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them.

The T-shirt dress is available from our Teemill store, https://scientistandphilosopher.com/product/women-s-plain-logo-t-shirt-dress-v1w/.

Glass Night – jigsaw puzzle

A Scientist and Philosopher jigsaw puzzle. This is a photo we took back in 1999 on our round the world trip. One of the amazing stained glass windows of the Dom Bosco church in Brazilia that represents the night sky. This very modern church called the Dom Bosco Sanctuary is named after the Italian saint of the same name. (S&P)

While most puzzles are mass produced with single use plastic in the mix, these are the first sustainable UK puzzles. Teemill use real time manufacturing technology on a new medium to create print on demand puzzles and because they make these one at a time in the seconds after they are ordered, there’s no wasteful overproduction – just what people need when they need it. They use sustainable, plant-based materials and renewable energy – and do it affordably. That said they are more expensive than less eco friendly puzzles.

Where’s Basil? – Visiting an insect hotel in Lyon, France – Brown Bear’s Big Day Out

Brown Bear’s Big Day Out is a story about a bear in a zoo that puts on a disguise so that he can escape and visit a funfair called Dizzyland. It’s about looking at people in depth and not being afraid because they look different from you. So Basil looks like a man when disguised but is still the same friendly and hero bear in this case once his disguise slips.

The story contains illustrations throughout the text. These are then repeated at the back of the printed book so that younger children can colour them in. One of them can be seen below.

Basil is seen in this photo visiting an insect hotel in Lyon, France.
