A place to live, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England

Our inner cities have often become run down because of industries being replaced or moved overseas to take advantage of cheap exploited labour. Meanwhile buildings that have a lot of embodied energy in them could be restored and made into homes. What needs to happen is to turn them into 15 minute centres within the city as Anna Hidalgo and Carlos Moreno are doing in Paris. Places where a private car is no longer necessary and everything that a person needs is within 15 minutes of walking or cycling. In this manner we have a chance of meeting the fossil fuel reductions to keep the Earth’s temperature from rising 1.5C above pre-industrial times. 23rd January 2010.

Harrier Jump Jet front view, Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire

We went to an open day at Bletchley park. This Harrier Jump Jet was already looking sad when we visited so I suspect that it’s in a worse state now unfortunately. It was already sinking into the mud. These jets had short lifetimes and were not meant to sit outside for years on end. Bletchly Park was the principle location during WW2 for code breakers. Now it contains the National Computing Centre among its other attractions. The photo dates from the 2nd August 2009.

Bletchly Park was the principle location during WW2 for code breakers. Now it contains the National Computing Centre among its other attractions. The photo dates from the 2nd August 2009.
