Shadow of the Jaguar – jigsaw puzzle

*** Free UK postage on any item from this Friday, 9am, 29th March through to midnight Monday 1st of April ***

So this is a first for us and our Scientist and Philosopher brand. This is a photo of the bonnet mascot of a classic Jaguar photographed at a classic car meeting in Vevey, Switzerland back in September 2014. Using the Teemill platform we have transformed it into a fiendishly difficult jigsaw puzzle.

While most puzzles are mass produced with single use plastic in the mix, these are the first sustainable UK puzzles. Teemill use real time manufacturing technology on a new medium to create print on demand puzzles and because they make these one at a time in the seconds after they are ordered, there’s no wasteful overproduction – just what people need when they need it. They use sustainable, plant-based materials and renewable energy – and do it affordably. That said they are more expensive than less eco friendly puzzles. (S&P)

Fallen giant, Hyde Park, London – Environmental loading 14

I posted this in April of 2021 and since then we’ve lost so much more forest and other habitat. In many cases it’s as if as a species we are ignorant or stupid.

27th April 2021

A fallen giant and one that is probably one of the few that fell naturally due to its age and size in 2021. Think of what the Earth must have been like before us? Before we the modern primate discovered fire and tools for bringing the natural life of great trees to an early unnatural end. There would have been the occasional crash of a titan in a forest rather than the chainsaw desecration to grow palm oil or coffee or to give some pretentious executive a truly non environmentally friendly office. Trees are part of that important system of maintaining the Earth in some sort of habitable balance for all life forms to carry on living, passing on their genes and allowing evolution to take place. Most humans though just see them as an obstacle to growth and to what we primates laughingly call progress. A progress that is probably increasing the likelihood of our own species extinction. Extinction is the norm and our current mindset is that we take nature for granted. We shouldn’t unless we want to learn a very hard lesson for not giving it the respect that it deserves.

A destroyed West African rain forest and obese Westerners, London

First blogged on the 19th of March 2021, forests are still being destroyed to grow cocoa to make sugar laden chocolate and those addicted to it very unhealthy. Not forgetting that forests all over the world are being laid to waste to fulfil 1st world consumerist and capitalist unsustainable growth for many reasons.

19th March 2021

Pile it high chocolate representing a destroyed rain forest somewhere on the planet with probable economic slavery thrown in of the growers paid far below what first world workers would earn, so Westerners can stuff themselves with sugar laden products, that make them obese and ill. Economics if not the dirtiest game then certainly one of the most dirty games that humans play. Photo from the 15th of September 2018.

2CV – for a kinder and slower pace of life

First posted a couple of years ago. The 2CV has four seats but you could probably have two of them in the space of the hideous SUVs in our towns and cities. We need to ban SUVs and blingmobiles. We also need to move to a shared resource in terms of car ownership and not a personally owned model.

2nd February 2021

The only problem with this 2CV is that it is still has an internal combustion engine. It just needs to be converted to battery powered. It’s light, small and slow and ideal for getting around our small and narrow town and city streets increasingly blocked and choked up with large, heavy, too fast, polluting SUVs and blingmobiles. Time to reclaim the streets.

Glass Night – jigsaw puzzle

A Scientist and Philosopher jigsaw puzzle. This is a photo we took back in 1999 on our round the world trip. One of the amazing stained glass windows of the Dom Bosco church in Brazilia that represents the night sky. This very modern church called the Dom Bosco Sanctuary is named after the Italian saint of the same name.

A group of wheelchair racers, 2015 London Marathon

A group of wheelchair racers at around mile 13 of the 2015 London Marathon. 26th April.

It must be very difficult to take part in a racing chair.

Part of what makes the London marathon special is the number of people is the huge support the participants get from the crowd.

Clever Loco – jigsaw puzzle

The second of our Scientist and Philosopher jigsaw puzzles. This one is from a photo we took back in 1999 in the train graveyard near the town of Uyuni in Bolivia. On this rusting carcass of a steam locomotive some distance from the town, we discovered that someone had painted an Einstein equation, it must have taken a lot of paint. It was well over a kilometre from the town as well.
