Keep it cool – End fossil fuel use – organic cotton bag

This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform. It’s about the fact that the clock is ticking and still people seem oblivious to it with many trying to still push business as usual agendas. In the 200 or so years of industrial revolution of progress, a blink in geological time, we have altered the planet’s system to such an extent that we have enhanced our risk of extinction. The fossil record tells us that most species go extinct over time and that includes nine other species of humans leaving only sapiens. In 2021 we must change our ways and start reducing our fossil fuel use. It could be a bitter pill to swallow unless you are prepared for it. This bag is handy because you won’t have to use a plastic one.

Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. (S&P)

Make Earth great again – organic cotton bag

This is another organic cotton bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range that we have produced on the Teemill platform.

Imagine what the Earth looked like to an alien visitor some 7 million years ago before the human species started along its branch of evolution. Then think about what it looks like now and the damage that sapiens have caused, especially in the last two hundred years, the destroyed forests and wildernesses, the global plastic pollution, the live munitions discarded all over the planet’s surface, the staggering changes to the climate. We have a lot of reparations to make and we haven’t really started yet.

Desolation Boulevard, formerly known as Oxford Street

The last gasp of neoliberal, exploitative capitalism that will either cause the planet to be uninhabitable for the human monkey or we will destroy it. There are only two options. Either we change as a species and the vacuencers and vacuous start seeing the bigger picture or we face a dire future with an increasing risk of human extinction. It’s not just about drastically reducing the burning of fossil fuels but a complete reset of human economics and justice for every human being.

Dumb or dumber, the human primate – environmental loading 17

First posted almost three years ago. And only recently, for example, https://www.euronews.com/green/2024/01/09/bottled-water-contains-100-times-more-plastic-nanoparticles-than-previously-thought#:~:text=The%20average%20litre%20of%20bottled,a%20microscope%20using%20dual%20lasers. , it has been found that bottled water contains vast amounts of nano plastic particles. Now if you do a search you will find that some medical research is suggesting the potential for these nano particles to be connected to Parkinson’s Disease.

2021

If you did something that damaged your livelihood, your country and eventually endangered your life would you stop doing it or keep on repeating the same mistake? This is an example of the the human primate’s basic stupidity. Import into your country plastic pollution via fossil fuel burning transport. Fill plastic pollution bottles with water, H2O with a few minerals. Tell everyone it’s special. Ship filled bottles around the world via fossil fuel burning transport. Complain sea level rise is damaging your island. Repeat, repeat, repeat, water around your ankles, repeat, repeat, repeat……..

Your choice, with or without palm oil, Lausanne, Switzerland

First posted in March of 2021. So many of us rush through our days, our normal lives, completely unaware of the destruction that those “normal” and “convenient” lifestyles cause. Can you hear the Earth scream in pain as it slowly dies? No, not usually, it’s voice and sorrows drowned out by those “normal” and “convenient” lifestyles.

20th March 2021

The sustainability of palm oil is hotly debated. Yes, Europe and the US etc did huge amounts of forestry clearing in the last millennia but that’s no reason to say that humanity as a single primate species can continue to do so. For me personally after having seen the satellite images I don’t want products with palm oil in them. This sign on the door of a Swiss cafe gives us consumers a clear choice if we can be bothered to read it and that’s a big part of the issue. Despite the Greenpeace video of late 2019 we still need labeling of what we are buying and as consumers we should all be making conscious choices in our purchases. We have the power and we should use it.

The “I” in normal, “I” buy flowers for my mother

First blogged almost three years ago and little has changed as everything is so disconnected between first world consumption and third world production.

14th March 2021

Part six of my “I” and your “I” limited life bubble existence. In the UK it’s Mother’s Day. Many of us “I”s will be buying flowers for mothers and grandmothers. Many mothers and grandmothers will be receiving them but there will be many UK women who won’t because they have no family or perhaps their family are in a dire financial situation where they can’t even eat or heat their homes properly. There will be various other reasons why UK women will not be joyfully receiving flowers today.

But what of the flowers themselves? Does anybody question where they are from, what environmental cost in terms of climate change has brought them to where they were purchased or how much insecticide or pesticide was used in producing them. How much forest was cut down in some far away land so that a UK mother or grandmother can, for a short period of time receive, what is because it has been cut, a dying flower. Then what about all those mothers and grandmothers in those far away lands doing back breaking work for little money exposed to all sorts of man made chemicals so that some mothers and grandmothers in the UK can have a little of nature in their lives for a short period of time. Will they ever receive flowers on their Mother’s Day?

It’s time we thought beyond the small life bubble that we live in because it truly is a very small bubble.

The “I” in normal, the subtle changes outside of “I”

First posted almost a year ago, the Earth and some parts of humanity have changed dramatically in that time. In many ways we are still being completely dumb.

11th March 2021

Part five of my “I” and your “I” limited life bubble existence. There you are picking up your takeaway coffee in its PFAS covered cup rather than buying a reusable one and heading for your corporate desk or maybe you are still working from home. Maybe you are a subsistence farmer or maybe just someone fighting an oppressive regime that has decided that democracy is no longer valid. There “we” are, 7,800,000,000 of us “I” bubbles all going about our daily routines with very few of us “I”‘s thinking about what’s happening outside our limited bubbles. The Earth however is going through subtle changes, ones that will affect all of us. Far away in Greenland where very few human primates live and far from the view of most of us, algal blooms darken the surface of the ice reducing its albedo trapping more heat causing the ice to melt which causes the sea level to rise. While this study involved local dust it also mentions the dust that is being transported thousands of kilometres that will provide further nutrients for the algae to grow further. This dust is being generated both by our fossil fuel burning causing climate change and by our activities, farming for example. Can you hear the drips yet? Time for humanity to change its ways. https://phys.org/news/2021-01-microbes-fuelled-wind-blown-mineral-greenland.html

The Gulf Stream and what it might do in the near future

Posted almost three years ago There have been some exceptional extreme weather events since then and it’s set to get far worse. Don’t be the little piggie in the straw house thinking that the big bad wolf of climate change won’t come knocking at your door. Since then more studies and research have been carried out and have confirmed that our systems are changing but that they have not yet reached tipping points.

5th March 2021

This is an excellent piece by the New York Times on what may happen to the Gulf Stream in the near future because of the human primate’s burning of fossil fuels. We have effectively been “playing with fire” as a species and apart from the majority of the several thousand scientists involved in climate change telling us about what will happen if we heat the oceans and atmosphere, have been misled by global corporations centered on profit and wealth creation and their propping up of puppet governments. Humanity is in for a rough ride, how rough it will be will be determined by how quickly we act and it’s not just about buying an electric car, https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/03/02/climate/atlantic-ocean-climate-change.html?utm_source=Nature+Briefing&utm_campaign=799160eb16-briefing-dy-20210304&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c9dfd39373-799160eb16-43669565.

Water in a plastic bottle but why? – Environmental loading part 4

I first posted this in February of 2021 but has anything changed? No, not at all. There needs to be a huge tax on this ridiculous way of delivering and consuming water. There’s also the health issues of plastic as in exposure to Bisphenol A and the fact that nano and micro plastic particles have been found to have crossed the blood brain barrier and being linked to Parkinson’s Disease.

19 February 2021

When we traveled round South America in 1999 we were advised to drink bottled water because of local water standards so we did. Much of it appeared to be owned by the Coca Cola company but that’s another story regarding who owns water and additionally I understand it’s their packaging that represents the largest percentage of a single corporation’s detritus in the environment.

Since that time I may have drunk out of a plastic bottle in desperation but why do people in first world countries spend considerable amounts of money on H2O wrapped in plastic? Do they assume that the water in the bottle is better than that coming out of their taps? Have they done any research? Have they looked up any figures? Buying expensive H2O seems a very strange thing to do and generates huge amounts of plastic waste, climate change and pollution. Your bottle of water could be floating in an ocean gyre or be carcinogenic particles having being burnt in a local incinerator or because you live in a first world country could be desecrating a third world country’s environment because that’s how some despicable international trade works. The ridiculousness of Fiji complaining about sea level rise but exporting bottled water shows the stupidity of humanity.

So knowing that the tap water in London or say New York is perfectly drinkable why are you buying bottled water from half way round the world?
